Violet Stehr

Violet I. Stehr, 85, of Lansing passed away at Good Shepherd Hospice House of Manhattan, KS Friday, February 17, 2017. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 25 at St. Peter’s Christian Community Church in New Albin with Rev. William J. Reese officiating. A private graveside service was held in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Violet Iva Zillig was born December 5, 1931 to Peter and Nellie Zillig. Violet was married to Kermit Paul Stehr October 28, 1956 at the Church of Christ in Viroqua, WI. The couple made their home in Lansing.

Violet (or Vi as she was more commonly known) was an active member of St. Peter’s Christian Community Church in New Albin, participating in Women’s Fellowship, teaching Sunday School, ushering and helping wherever she was needed. Through the years, Vi was employed at Lutheran Hospital, Lansing Button Factory, Brown’s Department Store, and as an LPN at Thornton Manor. In addition to her church activities, she was a member of Eastern Star and the local American Legion Auxiliary.

Vi enjoyed walking with her dog, Bailey, either around town or up Mt. Hosmer, knitting, crocheting and sewing for her family, embroidery, reading, crossword puzzles and especially spending time with her family and friends. Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

Violet is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Geoff) Schive of Marshalltown and Amy (Scott) DeLoach  of Manhattan, KS; her grandchildren, Gabriel Schive of Cedar Rapids and his fiancé Rebekah Svendsen of Marshalltown, Kallie (Jordan) Judkins of Ankeny, Vanessa (Cole) Hoosier of Olathe, KS, Lauren (Travis) Mulanax  of Abilene, TX, Zachary (Gabrielle) DeLoach of Manhattan, KS, and Jordan DeLoach and Caleb DeLoach of Manhattan, KS; her great-grandchildren, Meghan and Katie Hoosier, and Avery, Jase and Nathan Mulanax; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Nellie Zillig; her husband, Kermit Stehr; her sisters, Lorraine Olson and Elaura Thompson; her mother-in-law, Adele Travis; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Olga Magnusson.
Memorials may be directed to Violet’s family for later designation to St. Peter’s Christian Community Church or the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS.
