Kee girls basketball team plays to third straight regional final during 17-5 campaign

After playing to program history a season ago with its first-ever State Tournament appearance, the Kee girls basketball team took its 2016-2017 season to the brink of that same qualification accomplishment for the third consecutive season this winter, falling just a few seconds and a single point short of a return trip to that season grand finale. Still, the Lady Hawks played to another strong season with a 17-5 season record that included a 10-3 mark that placed the Hawks third overall in the final Upper Iowa Conference standings and second in the small school division of that league.

Despite the fact that all of that statistical leadership and a good portion of those postseason honors is set to return next season, Coach Love can’t stress enough the importance of not relying on past experience alone to translate into future success. “We need more gym time - quality gym time; you get out of it what you put in,” he stressed. “Summer is a time for focusing on individual skills and some team work. I’d like to see these girls become even more athletic, more well-rounded athletes and they need to spend some time learning more of the game, thinking about things from a different perspective to understand it better.”

And the fifth-year coach obviously knows that the continuing success of his program also goes far beyond himself and the players he puts out on the floor. “I would want to thank the players, parents, fans and community for the support during the season and in all that the athletes at Kee High endeavor for.”
