Waukon High School cheerleaders selected to perform at All-Star event ...

The members of the Waukon High School cheerleading squad pictured above were chosen by the Iowa Cheer Coaches Association All-Star cheerleaders directors and choreographer to perform as part of the 2017 Iowa All-Star Team, being selected to cheer at the Iowa High School All-Star basketball games held at Dallas Center Grimes High School March 24-25. In January of this year, Waukon High School cheerleading coaches Amy and Lexie Bieber recorded try-out videos for the All-Star selection process consisting of the nine girls doing jumps, a short dance routine (4, 8 counts) and a cheer. The coaches also wrote recommendations and skills levels for each of their skills.

The girls selected for the All-Star Team were sent a video of the dances and cheer to learn before they arrived at the All-Star event, where they met the other nearly three dozen girls and boys selected for the All-Star weekend from schools all over the state of Iowa. All day Friday of the event the girls learned a full routine to perform Saturday at halftime of all four of the All-Star basketball games played. All the participants were recognized, and after the last performance there were seven participants further recognized with awards. Waukon High School senior Hannah Rogers was given an Outstanding Performance Award. Senior Jade Blake was also awarded the $250 All-Star Scholarship, which is awarded to one cheerleader showing outstanding leadership, skills and dedication.
