Earl Waters

Earl F. Waters, 86, of Waukon died Sunday, April 23, 2017 at his home. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. scripture service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iris Waters.

Earl Francis Waters was born March 9, 1931 in rural Dorchester, the son of George and Veronica (Schwartzhoff) Waters. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon and attended country schools and Waukon High School. Earl served in the U.S Navy from 1951-1954 during the Korean War.

January 25, 1955, he married Iris Steele at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. They owned and operated the Lansing Dry Cleaners in Lansing for a couple of years. Earl farmed for Mary and Bob Collins in Makee Township for 20 years. He also did construction work for several area construction companies and worked for area co-ops during the spring and fall.

Earl was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, telling stories, and spending time with his family. Earl and Iris also enjoyed traveling to Texas, Alaska, Switzerland and Cancun.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Waters; his children: Leonard (Wanda) Waters, Lesa (Kenneth) Bullman, Laura (Rodney) Necker, Larry (Tara) Waters and Loran Waters; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Leonette Troendle of Waukon; three brothers: Donald (Ardith) Waters of Waukon, Ralph Waters of Kenai, AK and Danny Waters of Anchorage, AK; and two sisters-in-law: Shirley Waters of Dubuque and Ellen Waters of Dows. He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Justin Waters; a granddaughter, Jessica Waters; four brothers: George, Bill, Ronald and Floyd Waters; and four sisters: Evelyn Peters, Kate Kirkeby, Delores Lundsford and Helen Dixon.
