Leona Bullerman

Leona Bullerman, age 90, of Calmar died peacefully with her family by her side Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Ossian Senior Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, April 19 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar with Rev. Robert Gross officiating. Interment was at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Calmar.

Leona (Winter) Bullerman was born February 6, 1927, the daughter of John and Philomena “Minnie” (Hackman) Winter, on the family farm in St. Lucas. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas.  Leona attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1945.

She married Vincent Bullerman June 11, 1946 at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church. To this union four children were born, Leon, Eileen, Marlene and Jan. Leona farmed with Vince south of Calmar until 1982 when they moved to Calmar. She cooked at the Oneota Country Club and the South Winn Country Club until retiring in June of 2015.  Leona was known for her baking, especially Kolaches and pie bars.

She loved polka dancing with Vince, playing cards, golf and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leona was a member of the South Winn Country Club, St. Aloysius Rosary Society and the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar.

Leona is survived by her son, Leon (Jane) Bullerman of Decorah; three daughters: Eileen (Delbert) Matt of Marion, Marlene (Fred) Gordon of Dorchester and Jan (Steve) Tieskoetter of Austin, MN; one sister, Alma Ameling of Hawkeye; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Winter of New Hampton and Kathryn Uhlenhake of Ossian; her grandchildren: Cory (Nora) Bullerman, Kasey Bullerman, Brenda (Jay) Olson, Robin (Jason) Castor, Brian (Alissa) Matt, Michael (Sherry Goberdhan) Matt, Kris (Kim) Gordon, Jenny Gordon, Wendy (Leif) Olson, Dustin (Heather) Tieskoetter and Shane (Evan) Tieskoetter; and her great-grandchildren: Maddux, Olive, Pearl, Shelby, Zoey, Lauren, Katelyn, Andrew, Audrey, Vince, Kallan, Knox, Samantha, Colin, Ryan, Brekyn and Kinsley.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Bullerman; her parents, John T. and Philomena “Minnie” (Hackman) Winter; her father- and mother-in-law, Joseph and Catherine (Timp) Bullerman; two brothers, Melvin Winter and Delbert (Ruby) Winter; a sister, Irma (Virgil) Thuente; four brothers-in-law: Raymond (Josephine) Bullerman, Leonard (Irma) Bullerman, Ray Uhlenhake and Irvin Ameling; two sisters-in-law, Angela (Hugo) Zweibohmer and Helen Bullerman; and a granddaughter, Kelly Gordon.

Casketbearers were Cory Bullerman, Mike Matt, Brian Matt, Kris Gordon, Shane Tieskoetter and Dustin Tieskoetter. Arrangements were handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Calmar.
