Waukon boys track team finishes fifth at Decorah, second at own Indian Relays


Waukon boys track junior Mitchell Snitker leans for the finish line on his way to victory in the 100 meter dash in 11.65 seconds at the Tribe’s own Indian Relays Friday, April 21. In addition to his 100 meter dash win, Snitker also won the 400 meter hurdles in 56.53 seconds and also teamed up with fellow junior Evan Armstead and the senior tandem of Brandon Regan and Blain Swenson to win the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:03.94. The Waukon boys track team competed in another pair of meets this past week. The track Tribe finished fifth out of seven teams at the Decorah Invitational Monday, April 17 before battling to a second-place team finish at its own Indian Relays Friday, April 21.
The Indians were next scheduled to compete at the Oelwein Invitational Tuesday, April 25 for their only meet this week. The track Tribe will then compete at New Hampton Monday, May 1 before taking part in the Northeast Iowa Conference Meet to be hosted by Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday, May 4 and then preparing for its Class 2A State Qualifying Meet to be held at North Fayette Valley Thursday, May 11, details of which can be found in a shaded box on this week’s Sports pages in the print edition and e-edition.

Decorah Invitational ...
The Waukon track boys competed at Decorah for a third consecutive week, finishing fifth in the final seven-team standings at the Viking Relays Monday, April 17. Not fully loading this meet in anticipation of their own Indian Relays later in the week, the Indians still managed four top-two placewinnings at the meet, half of those coming as event championships to help the Tribe to 66 team points.

Indian Relays ...
The Indian track boys hosted their own Indian Relays Friday, April 21, racking up a whopping 157 team points but still finishing second to Decorah’s 177 point total. The Indians were able to win eight events and finish second in four more to lead their runner-up charge.
