Michael Moose
Michael Ray Moose, 45, of Waukon died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, where he resided for his last six days. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 6 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. A private family burial will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Michael Ray Moose was born May 29, 1971 to Charlotte Moose in Iowa City. He was baptized July 1, 1971 and confirmed in April of 1985 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon. Mike graduated from Waukon High School.
Some of Mike’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, Facebook and playing computer games. He was a great cook, and liked going mushroom hunting and bowling. Mike loved following sports, so much so that the local barber referred to him as “a walking Sports Illustrated”; Mike knew it all: players, points, scores, everything. Besides following baseball and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, he loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Celtics.
April 29, 1974, Mike’s grandmother, Anna Mae, his uncle, Stan, and Mike were struck by another vehicle while on their way to the Winnie the Pooh Nursery School. As a result, Anna Mae was in a semi-coma until her death September 21, 1983. Mike and Stan received minor injuries.
February 6, 1977, Mike’s grandfather, Claud, and his family lost their home to a fire. While a new home was being built, the family lived in a makeshift trailer and stayed weekends with Mike’s Aunt Marsha at the bar. This is where Mike learned how to play pool and pinball. Upon Claud’s death, the family gave Mike a house in Waukon; he soon sold it and traveled to Dallas, TX. While there, he got to watch his favorite team (the Cowboys) and overall enjoyed himself.
Mike touched a lot of people’s lives and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a great sense of humor and was always smiling or grinning out of the corner of his mouth. His aunts and uncles considered him more like a brother than a nephew.
He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Moose; his aunts and uncles: Greg, Marcia (Jim) Rush, Gloria, Jeff, Brad and Stan; and his cousins: Nathan (Sabrina) Palmer, Lucas Palmer, Hannah and Caleb Nuehring, and Christine Rush Klingeman. Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, Claud and Anna Mae (Seitz) Moose.
