Kee track girls win Clayton Ridge Invitational; Severson rewrites shot put record for third time

The Kee girls track team ended up having just one meet to compete in as a team this week, winning the Clayton Ridge Invitational Tuesday, April 25. The track Hawks had their Thursday, April 27 meet at MFL/MarMac canceled due to weather. Kee junior Kendra Cooper did compete in the Drake Relays Thursday, April 27 in the discus event, with details of that showcase effort being highlighted in a shaded box in the Sports pages of the print e-dition and e-edition of The Standard.

The Lady Hawks took the Clayton Ridge Invitational team title by a narrow margin, topping the eight-team field once the final team score dust settled. The Kee track girls racked up six event victories and three runner-up finishes to compile 128 points, a championship total just five points ahead of second-place Sumner-Fredericksburg.

The Lady Hawks were next scheduled to end up competing on the Edgewood-Colesburg track for three consecutive events, going there for one final invitational meet Monday, May 1 before competing in the Upper Iowa Conference Meet at Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, May 4, but had that May 1 canceled due to weather. One final chance to extend this season will take place Thursday, May 11 at the Hawks’ Class 1A State Qualifying Meet, also to be held at Edgewood-Colesburg High School and details of which can be found in a shaded box elsewhere in the Sports pages in the print edtion and e-edtion of The Standard.
