Waukon girls golf team fourth at quadrangular, third at NEIC Tournament

Caitlin Shelton, Carley Sweeney, Kylee Hager and Whitney Cota play to All-Conference honors

The Waukon girls golf team had just one date of competition last week, but opened this week with a third-place finish at the Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament hosted by Charles City Monday, May 8. The Indians were finally able to make up a postponed April 4 date at Charles City, but ended up competing against more than just the host Comets in what turned out to be a Tuesday, May 2 quadrangular event. The Indian lady linksters also had a Monday, May 1 road dual at Oelwein postponed to a make-up date of Thursday, May 11 to be played, instead, at Waverly-Shell Rock.

at Charles City ...
In what turned out to be their only competition of last week, the Lady Indians did battle with three other teams at Charles City Tuesday, May 2. The golf Tribe ended up on the short end of that four-team final scoring field, shooting a 210 that was just one stroke off the host Comets’ 209 pace but further behind New Hampton’s winning total of 179 strokes and Clear Lake’s 192 strokes.

NEIC Tournament ...
The Indian golf girls got late-season tournament play underway Monday, May 8 at the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) Tournament played at Cedar Ridge near Charles City. Having played there less than a week earlier in a quadrangular meet and ending up behind two fellow NEIC teams in that final scoring, the Indians remained behind Class 2A highly-rated New Hampton and slipped behind Decorah at the NEIC Meet to end up tied for third place with Charles City, each with 415 team strokes.
