Robert Grahlman

Robert C. Grahlman, 69, of Postville died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville. Memorial Services were held Thursday, June 8 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville with Rev. Gary Catterson as the officiant. Inurnment was held in the Postville Cemetery with military rites by the Postville American Legion Post #518.

Robert Claude, the son of Claude and Genevieve (Sires) Grahlman, was born January 8, 1948 in Waterloo. Bob graduated from Waukon High School in 1966. He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War.

After his return from the Navy, Bob worked for Wayne Farms and then Farm Services in Waukon. He returned to Postville in 1973 and operated a bulk gas/fuel oil truck until 1980. Bob then worked for Iowa Turkey Products in Postville. After the plant burned down in 2003, he continued to operate the office in Postville before moving to Marshall, MN in 2005. Later in 2005, Bob returned from Marshall and went to work at Gencor in Marquette.

Bob was united in marriage with Barbara Winke April 21, 1972 at the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. To this union two children, Brandi and Brian, were born. Bob enjoyed watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and was very knowledgeable about all sports. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

Bob was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, the V.F.W. and Tri-City Golf Course. Bob served on several committees and was a vice president and board member for the Iowa Turkey Federation for many years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barb, of Postville; two children, Brandi (Matthew) Bachman of Swisher and Brian (Aaron) Grahlman of Marion; two grandchildren, Colten and Caden Grahlman; one sister, Susan (Donald) Sommermeyer of Lansing; two nephews, Eric (Kimberly) Sommermeyer and Jon Sommermeyer; and two great nephews, Lukas and Karsten Sommermeyer. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Genevieve.
