Hartley "Gene" Wilder

Hartley “Gene” E. Wilder, 88, of Waukon died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.

Hartley Eugene Wilder was born January 16, 1929 in Lansing, the son of Flavius and Julia (Miles) Wilder. He was baptized at St. John's United Methodist Church in Dorchester. He attended rural country school in the Lansing area and graduated from Waterville High School in 1946.

September 10, 1949, he married Lotus Iris Linde at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon. They farmed together in the Dorchester area before retiring and moving to Waukon in 1995.

Gene was a member of United Methodist Church in Dorchester, where he served on the church board. He was also very active in the Allamakee County Soil Conservation Program. Gene was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed working with his horses and the other farm animals that they had on the farm. Gene had several collections of cards, records, pencils and baseball caps from every state.

Survivors include his wife, Lotus, of Waukon; his children: Gary (Faye) Wilder of Richland Center, WI, Blaine (Linda) Wilder of Waukon, Dawn (Rick Hayes) Wilder of Plymouth, CA and Brent (Jen) Wilder of Puyallup, CA; six grandchildren: Brandon (Jessica) Wilder, Ashley (Luke) Hirsch, Cody Wilder, Jennifer (Chris) Dalenberg, and Connor and Peyton Hayes; and three great-grandchildren: Collin Wilder, Lillie Springer and Lois Dalenberg. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marc, Jim and Newton Wilder; and three sisters, Etta Mae Wilder, Iva Sandry and Ardis Cole.
