Fred Hogan

Fred L. Hogan, 76, of Lansing died Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Mayo Health Systems in La Crosse, WI. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, September 5 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with the Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Interment was at Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing.

Fred was born November 9, 1940 in La Crosse, WI to Floyd and Elizabeth (Livingston) Hogan. Fred graduated in 1960 from Eastern Allamakee Community School in Lansing and then attended Barber College in Waterloo. He began barbering in 1961, opening his own shop in 1963, from which he retired in 2009.

September 7, 1963 he was united in marriage with Phyllis Weber at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Phyllis and the four sons they raised were always his first priority and greatest source of pride. Fred was an active community member serving on Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Jaycees and Boy Scouts, and he was a founding member of both the Lansing Ambulance Service and City Swimming Pool. He volunteered in many capacities within the church, including serving as council president. He enjoyed euchre, baseball, bowling, golf, hunting and bird watching. Telling jokes and sharing laughs with others brought him great joy.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four sons: Todd (Tina) of Janesville, WI, Tony (Jil) of Story City, Kerry (Lisa Voidets) of Stoddard, WI and Kyle (Nikki Konkel) of Caledonia, MN; 12 grandchildren, Jessica, Jaclyn, Zach, Ross, Elizabeth, Brett, Carter, Haley, Elena, Whitney, Jordan and Austin; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ron (Edith) Hogan of Lansing. Fred is preceded in death by his parents.

The Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Lansing assisted the family with arrangements.
