School Board Election scheduled to take place September 12

Residents of Allamakee County will be joining those throughout the state of Iowa in choosing individuals to lead their respective school district boards of education when the Tuesday, September 12 School Board Election takes place throughout the state. Voters in the Allamakee, Eastern Allamakee and Postville Community School Districts in Allamakee County will be able to cast their vote that Tuesday between 12 noon and 8 p.m. at their respective voting precincts listed below.

ALLAMAKEE
Voters in the Allamakee Community School District will have two board seats up for re-election this fall. Those two seats each have incumbent candidates vying for another term with no declared opposition. Allan Rissman will be seeking re-election to his Director-At-Large position, and Scott Melcher will be doing likewise for his District 1 Director seat.

Polling sites for voters in the Allamakee Community School District will be at the following locations:

• St. Mary’s Church, Dorchester: All voters of the school district living within Waterloo and Union City Townships.
• NICC Center, Waukon: All voters of the school district living within Center, Franklin, French Creek, Hanover, Jefferson, Lansing, Ludlow, Makee and Union Prairie Townships and the City of Waukon in Allamakee County, and within Frankville and Glenwood Townships in Winneshiek County.
• Waterville City Hall/Library: All voters of the school district living within Lafayette, Linton and Paint Creek Townships and the City of Waterville.
• Ethel Robinson Meehan Community Center, Harpers Ferry: All voters of the school district living within Fairview and Taylor Townships and the City of Harpers Ferry.

EASTERN ALLAMAKEE
Voters in the Eastern Allamakee Community School District will also have two board seats up for re-election this fall. Those two seats also each have incumbent candidates vying for another term with  no declared opposition. Melanie Mauss will be seeking re-election to her Director-At-Large position, and Heather Schulte will be doing likewise for her District 3 Director seat.

Polling sites for voters in the Eastern Allamakee Community School District will be at the following locations:

• New Albin Community Center - All voters in the school district living within Union City and Iowa Townships and the City of New Albin.
• Kerndt Brothers Savings Bank Community Center: All voters in the school district living within the City of Lansing and French Creek, Lansing, Lafayette, Taylor and Center Townships.

POSTVILLE
Voters in the Postville Community School District will be seeking to fill two Director-At-Large positions. Incumbent Staci Malcolm will be seeking re-election to her At-Large position and Anthony Gericke will be seeking election to the At-Large position being vacated.
The lone polling site for voters in the Postville Community School District will be at Turner Hall in Postville for all voters of the school district living in Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek Counties.

NICC
Voters in all districts in Allamakee County will also have the election for their respective board of director position for Northeast Iowa Community College on the September 12 ballot. Incumbent candidate Kathy Gunderson is running unopposed in seeking re-election to her Director District 2 seat.

ABSENTEE VOTING
To request an absentee ballot for the September 12 election, use the official Absentee Request form available at the Allamakee County Auditor’s Office, County website allamakee.us/auditor2 or Secretary of State’s website, sos.iowa.gov and mail to Allamakee County Commissioner of Elections, 110 Allamakee St, Waukon, IA 52172. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is this Friday, September 8.

In-person absentee voting is available at the Allamakee County Auditor’s Office through 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 12. Regular office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., with the office being closed Labor Day Monday, September 4.
