Gretta Fiet

Gretta (Mohwinkle) Fiet, 73, of Rockford, IL passed away November 1, 2017 after a long battle with dementia. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 11 at Riverside Community Church with Pastor Bobby Sheets officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.

Gretta was born September 13, 1944 in Waukon, the daughter of Delton and Helen (Beardmore) Mohwinkle.  She graduated from Waukon High School and married David Fiet June 8, 1963.  Gretta did administrative and clerical work for Sears Optical, and worked in the office with her husband at P&L Auto Body.

She was a member at Riverside Community Church and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Belvidere Moose Club and the Rockford Elks Club.  Gretta was a fine bowler and city champion. She was an avid gardener and great baker; in fact, in high school she won the Betty Crocker award. Gretta also enjoyed her time quilting with the Stitch and Bitch Club.

She is survived by her husband, David; her son, Ron (Laura) Fiet of Rockford, IL; her daughter, Debbie (Tim) McEvilly of Plainfield, IL; her grandchildren, Maggie and Liam McEvilly; her beloved dog, Rags; her siblings, Lyle (Mary) Mohwinkle, Ralph (Viv) Mohwinkle, Brenda Vonderohe, Greg (Cathy) Mohwinkle, Fern (Al) Rissman, Doreen Denstad and Bev (Scott) Anderson; along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
