Allamakee Community School District AALP students participate in Wind Energy Challenge ...

Students in the Allamakee Community School District’s (ACSD) Allamakee Accelerated Learning Program (AALP) recently took part in a Wind Energy Challenge hosted by Keystone Area Education Agency (AEA) in Elkader Tuesday, April 17. The event gives students a chance to apply their knowledge of wind energy and engineering skills to design a wind turbine. Student teams designed and built a working wind turbine and developed a display to further explain their project, with the projects being tested for energy output.

Among the AALP students participating in the event were (pictured at right, left to right) Noah Evans and Toby Treptau, fourth grade students at East Elementary School in Waukon under the direction of ACSD Kindergarten-Fifth grades Talented and Gifted (TAG) Facilitator Carlyn Lechtenberg, and (pictured below, left to right) seventh graders James Johanningmeier and Emma Palmer, and sixth graders Charles Johanningmeier and Isaac Ericson, Waukon Middle School students under the direction of ACSD Sixth-12th grades AALP Coordinator Peyton Lapel. Not pictured is Waukon Middle School eighth grader Vivian Khan, who also made significant contributions to the Middle School project but was unable to attend the event. Submitted photos.
