Robey Memorial Library hosting year-long Adult Reading Challenge with “A Universe of Stories” theme; Other programs, events also taking place


Robey Memorial Library announces 2018 Adult Reading Challenge winners ... “Libraries Rock” was the theme of Robey Memorial Library’s 2018 Adult Reading Challenge. Readers were challenged to read books from 13 categories throughout the year, with each category read earning an entry in the Challenge’s prize drawing. “A Universe of Stories” is the theme of Robey Memorial Library’s 2019 Adult Reading Challenge that began January 1 and ends December 31. Patrons are invited to explore the wonders of the universe and learn about the solar system, perhaps trying something new, such as learn new facts about space, read a new book, try a new craft, meet new people, and much more.

Those participating can receive a prize drawing entry for reading from one of each of 12 categories: biography; short stories or essays; cross-cultural theme; science fiction or space theme; history fiction or non-fiction; autobiography; poetry; mystery fiction or non-fiction; second book in a series; travel fiction or non-fiction; story of courage fiction or non-fiction; and story of friendship fiction or non-fiction.

Prizes will be awarded by random drawing after the challenge is complete at the end of this year, December 31. Prizes include a Kindle/tablet, mp3 device, Waukon Bucks and local business Gift Certificate bundle. Books must be read during the 2019 calendar year to be eligible for the drawing. Participants can submit their entry form to the library or online throughout the year.

In addition to the Reading Challenge, patrons are reminded of the library’s regularly scheduled programming as well, including:

• The Brown Bag ‘n’ Books program is held monthly the first Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. Those attending can listen to excerpts of several selected books and may hear something they just have to read. Those attending can bring their own lunch if they’d like.
• Join the Thursday Night Book Club, which meets the third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. and discusses a wide variety of books.
• Learn something new during one of Robey Memorial Library’s Live & Learn programs offered the last Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
• Watch for other special events during the library’s Summer Reading Program in July.
