Waukon High School cheerleaders selected for All-Star Cheer Squad ...

The members of the Waukon High School cheerleading squad pictured above were chosen by the Iowa Cheer Coaches Association Board of Directors and All-Star Committee to perform as part of the 2019 Iowa All-Star Team, being selected to cheer at the Iowa High School All-Star basketball games held at Dallas Center Grimes High School Saturday, March 23. In January of this year, Waukon High School cheerleading coaches Amy and Lexie Bieber recorded try-out videos for the All-Star selection process consisting of the girls doing a short cheer, a short dance routine and a toe touch. The coaches also wrote recommendations and skill levels for each skill.

The girls selected for the All-Star Team were sent a video of the dances and cheers to learn before they arrived at the All-Star event, where they met the other nearly three dozen girls and boys selected for the All-Star weekend from schools all over the state of Iowa. All day Friday prior to the All-Star basketball event the cheerleaders learned a full routine to perform Saturday at halftime of all four of the All-Star basketball games played. All the participants were recognized, and after the last performance participants were further recognized with awards. Waukon High School sophomore Allie Bieber (also pictured at right) was picked for the Iowa All-Tournament Team for the second consecutive year.

The five Waukon High School cheerleaders selected for the All-Star Cheer Squad were the most selections of any school participating in the All-Star event this year. Pictured above, left to right, are this year’s All-Star cheerleaders from Waukon High School: Seniors Brittney Troester, Taya Duehr and Michaela Dehli, freshman Peyton Verthein and sophomore Allie Bieber.
