Eastern Allamakee Community School District Grab & Go sack lunch program continues for youth until school re-opens in April

The Eastern Allamakee Community School District (EACSD) began offering Grab & Go Lunch services Wednesday, March 18 due to the COVID-19 virus and will continue to offer them during the ongoing school shutdown, which is scheduled to end Monday, April 13 at this point in time. Until then, all youth age 18 and under living in the same household as an EACSD student may pick up a single sack lunch each weekday, Monday-Friday, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Meals can be picked up at Kee High School in Lansing or at New Albin Elementary School in New Albin. It does not matter which school a youth is attending, the meals can be picked up from the school that is closest to their residence. All meals will be “sacked” by meal site staff. Those picking up meals will be encouraged to use the on-site hand sanitizer before reaching for their meals and to wash their hands with soap and water before eating.

Youth will not be permitted to stay and eat their meals on site, but rather take them home. Rural students, families who have members who are immunocompromised, or those with illness who are unable to pick up the meals from designated meal site locations can contact the EACSD Main Office to request and make arrangements for meals by calling 563-538-4201. Those who are experiencing sickness or are immunocompromised are asked to avoid the meal site locations; their meals can be dropped off for doorstep delivery to avoid person-to-person contact. The EACSD does not have the resources to provide deliveries to every household so it is asked that a delivery request only be made if absolutely necessary.

Additionally, the EACSD will have SnackPacks available. Students in need are encouraged to take one or two SnackPacks each week from a meal site location for supplementation of meals. These will be provided at the scheduled time of meal pick-up.

Because the current situation is rapidly changing, district patrons are urged to follow the Eastern Allamakee Community School District’s primary website, www.e-allamakee.k12.ia.us, for further announcements and to accept school reach calls as a way to stay informed.
