Faith Palmer, an Allamakee County 4-H member from Waukon, was awarded the Marion E. Jerome Foundation 4-H Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation this spring. Palmer is a 2020 graduate of Waukon High School and the daughter of John and Meghan Palmer of Waukon.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced the recipients of over 90 Iowa 4-H scholarships valued at more than $100,000. Over 400 applications were submitted and scholarships have been awarded to recipients from 54 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences.

By attending State 4-H Conference, camps and conferences, and the State 4-H Legislative Day in Des Moines, Palmer has built connections with 4-H members across the state. In the fall, Palmer will be starting her sophomore year at Iowa State University majoring in Dairy Science.

“Hands is the most personal H to me of the four H’s. From living on a farm, I have learned the importance of hard work. My parents have always taught me to never be afraid of work and in order to achieve my goals, I needed to work hard and be positive,” says Palmer.

“We are so proud of our 4-H scholarship recipients, knowing that they have had challenges to overcome this year,” said Emily Saveraid, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “These scholarships honor and reward hard work and dedication. We are thankful for the many scholarship donors who fund these important opportunities for Iowa 4-H’ers.”

Candace and David Arp of Decorah established Marion E. Jerome Foundation 4-H Scholarship to help 4-H’ers in northeast Iowa pursue their educational goals by providing this scholarship to one male and one female 4-H member to attend either a two- or four-year college in any state. Arp’s mother, Marion E. Jerome, was a 4-H leader and supporter for many years. Preferences are given to 4-H’ers showing financial need from Winneshiek, Howard and Allamakee Counties.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides the private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs throughout the state of Iowa. These opportunities help young people enhance their ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication and social skills - tools that will give them a competitive edge in their future endeavors.
