Property tax and other important information updated by the Allamakee County Treasurer’s Office

This Friday is final day to pay taxes to avoid delinquent tax list

Allamakee County Treasurer Lori Hesse would like to make residents and property owners of Allamakee County aware that Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ Proclamation of Disaster Emergency signed July 24 impacts many of the services provided at the Treasurer’s Office. Among the helpful things to know are the following:

• The second half property taxes for the 2019/2020 payable year which were due in March 2020 did not have penalty until August 1, 2020. Delinquent notices have now been sent for those parcels. The last day for a property owner to pay those taxes to keep their name out of the delinquent tax list newspaper publication is Friday, August 14. Unpaid taxes will be offered for sale at the tax sale to be held Monday, September 21, 2020.
•Motor vehicle registration renewals that expired January 2020 through July 31, 2020 must be paid by August 31, 2020 to avoid penalty.
• Motor vehicle and tax transactions will be limited to two customers in the Treasurer’s office at one time, due to social distancing requirements.
• Driver’s licenses that expired January 16, 2020 and during the proclamation period have had driving privileges extended through August 23, 2020 will now need to renew those licenses. At this time, all drivers license transactions are by appointment only. Call the Treasurer’s office for an appointment (563-568-3793) or renew online, if eligible, at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/service-selector.  Some drivers licenses can be extended for six months for driving purposes online with the Department of Transportation.
