Veterans Memorial Hospital introduces new CEO

Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon recently welcomed Michael Coyle as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital following the retirement of CEO Mike Myers after 22 years of service to the hospital. Myers retired July 31 of this year.
Coyle brings many years of CEO experience in Critical Access Hospitals to the position including Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital in Ely, MN, Coteau des Prairies Healthcare System in Sisseton, SD, and West Holt Medical Services in Atkinson, NE.
Coyle said he chose to further his career at Veterans Memorial Hospital because of the hospital’s reputation for quality, full spectrum of services, beautiful location and the opportunity to make a difference in a wonderful community.
“My wife, Amy, and I are very excited to be here and help a great organization continue to provide high quality service to northeast Iowa,” stated Coyle. “In my first few days at VMH, I have seen a commitment to excellence by a very dedicated and caring staff.”
Coyle was born and raised in Tracy, MN. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Southwest Minnesota State University, his Masters of Business Administration from Southwest Minnesota State University and is currently earning his Doctorate degree in Health Administration.
He actually began his medical career as a critical care paramedic and through the years has filled other positions such as EMS Educator at North Memorial Medical Transportation in Redwood Falls, MN, Director of Wellness Services at Tyler Health Care Center in Tyler, MN, and Director of Marketing at Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, MN. He has also owned his own consulting firm specializing in strategic planning, program development, financial analysis, budgeting, membership recruitment and retention.
“Our goal at VMH is to be the provider and employer of choice in the region, as well as offer a wide variety of services that allow patients to stay close to home for their healthcare needs,” Coyle explained. “We will continue to expand our current services while looking for additional growth opportunities.”
Coyle and his wife, Amy, moved to Lansing from Ely, MN last month. They have a son, Josh, a daughter-in-law, Kylie, and a grandchild, Kollins. His hobbies include photography, fishing, boating, hunting, hiking, traveling, football and baseball.
Coyle concludes, “I am looking forward to being part of a wonderful care team and getting involved in the community.”
