Monte Dundee

Monte Ray Dundee, 68, of Postville died Monday, August 17, 2020 at his home in Postville. A Private Family Graveside Service was held. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 12 from 2-6 p.m. at the Postville Fairgrounds in Postville.

Monte was born February 21, 1952 to Curtis Arthur and Eva Louise (Walters) Dundee in Waukon. He was baptized April 6, 1952 at Rossville Presbyterian Church and confirmed at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. Monte graduated from Postville High School in 1970. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps, serving from 1970 to 1976 and in the Vietnam War.

September 6, 1975, Monte was united in marriage with Delora Snitker at Waterville Lutheran Church. They lived in Waukon and Monte worked at Hygrade Foods in Postville until it closed. Then they moved to Hayward, MN after being hired at Wilson Foods in Albert Lea, MN. From there they moved back to Postville and Monte started work at Swiss Valley Farms in Luana and St. Olaf until his retirement.

Monte was a member of Postville Presbyterian Church. He was a lifetime member of the Waukon VFW. His biggest passion was playing Euchre and Pinnochle at the office. He also enjoyed teaching his nieces and nephews how to drive, watching the old westerns and anything to do with the military.

Surviving Monte are his wife, Delora “Dode” Dundee of Postville; his children, Stacy Dundee and John (Bridget Berns) Dundee; his sisters, Cindy (Todd) Rounds of Clermont and Audrey (Bryan) Meyer of Cedar Rapids; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara (Sigurd) Ness of Waukon, Arlyn (Julie) Snitker of Washington, MO, Robin Snitker of Cedar Rapids, Nancy (Dennis) Turner of Postville, Russell Snitker of Newton, Lavonne (Mark) Dayton of Cedar Falls, Laverne Snitker of Cedar Falls and Bruce (Sheila) Snitker of Waukon; and many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Preceding Monte in death were his parents, Curtis and Eva Dundee; his brother, Gary Dundee; his nephew, Jason Dundee; his father-in-law, Donald Snitker; his step-father-in-law, Dale Kuhse; and a brother-in-law, Steven Snitker.

Memorials in Monte’s honor may be sent to Postville Area Ambulance Service, Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon and VFW in Waukon. Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Postville is assisting the family with arrangements.
