Dairy Evaluation Team earns second-place finish ...

The 2020 Northeast District FFA Dairy Cattle Career Development Event was held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Manchester Saturday, September 26. Twenty-four teams participated in this year’s District event, with participants completing a dairy evaluation test along with placing four classes of cows and heifers. The Dairy Evaluation test consisted of common knowledge, pedigree evaluation, sire evaluation and farm management questions. This year, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, contestants did not give oral reasons to a set of judges. The state Dairy Cattle Evaluation event date is still to be decided.

Under the guidance of Advisor Ms. Jessica O’Connor, the Little Switzerland FFA Chapter from Waukon High School had four members participate at this event. This year’s participants are pictured above and include, left to right: Claire Opperman, Cassidy Gibbs, Kiersten Gibbs and Alaina Gebel. Together as a team they earned second place overall. Alaina Gebel placed eighth place overall individually and Cassidy Gibbs placed 10th overall at this competition. The event looked a little different this year, but it was still a safe and great opportunity for all those who participated to gain knowledge and experience about dairy cattle. Submitted photo.
