Thomas Collins

Thomas “Tom” J. Collins, 67, of Waukon died Friday, December 4, 2020 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon.

In consideration of concerns regarding COVID-19, social distancing and wearing of a mask is required to attend the service. Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements. Condolences can be sent to Mary Johnson at 1006 Teeple Creek Road, Waukon, IA 52172.

Thomas Joseph Collins was born February 12, 1953 in Waukon, the son of John P. and Marcella (Hammel) Collins. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Tom attended French Creek country school, Hanover country school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1973. After he graduated from high school, Tom farmed with his father and brother, John, in Silver Creek Township until 2004. Tom then went to work at the Waukon Redemption Center for several years.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and watching John Wayne movies. He also loved driving his 3020 John Deere in parades, especially the St. Patrick’s Day parade and on rides throughout northeast Iowa.

Survivors include his siblings: James (Wanda) Collins of Knoxville, and Mary Johnson and John L. (Von) Collins, both of Waukon; his nieces and nephews: Pat Collins, Marcella Collins, Kristine (Pat) Schwartzhoff, Gary M. (Jenny) Johnson, Steven (Amy) Johnson, Karen (Brian) Cota, Amy (Ian) McCormick, Sarah (Kelly Pearson) Collins and Jason (Jenna Rosendahl) Collins; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Gary Johnson.

Honorary casketbearers are Diane Fahey Ernst, Mary Flatin, Maxine Grotegut, Kathy O’Malley, Mary Beth Regan and the Northgate Care Center Staff. Casketbearers are Gary M. and Steven Johnson, Jason and Mike Collins, Dennis Troendle and Dave Hammel.
