Allamakee Scholarship Fund, Inc. “phone-a-thon” fundraiser to be handled by mail this year

Local residents should expect to receive letters in mid to late February

The 2020-2021 Allamakee Scholarship Fund, Inc. phone-a-thon typically held in February each year is the major fundraiser for the organization and is conducted by the student applicants in conjunction with the Allamakee Scholarship Fund, Inc. Board of Directors. In past years, students used phone banks at Waukon High School and at Waukon State Bank and FreedomBank in Waukon to secure donation pledges.

With COVID-19 restrictions in place this year, no phone calling will be done at all, and students will, instead, address and mail phone-a-thon donation letters. These phone-a-thon mailings will be prepared Thursday, February 11, Tuesday, February 16 and Monday, February 22.

Every dollar raised through the fundraising drive goes to student scholarships and is tax-deductible. All funds raised from the “phone-a-thon” mailing campaign will be awarded this spring to scholarship applicants of the Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) Class of 2021. Pledges need to be returned by March 20 so that spring scholarship plans by the organization can be completed.

Julie Rotach, Allamakee Scholarship Fund, Inc. President stated, “The community encouragement for the students has been super in past years and we hope to continue that educational support this year. Since 1993, Allamakee Scholarship Fund, Inc. has awarded $1,149,988 in scholarships to 1,681 graduating seniors and alumni in the ACSD.  That is exciting to see that our community encourages and is so supportive of our students’ post-high school education goals. Last year, 63 students received $70,570 in scholarship awards. For the 16th year, the ASF board will also award alumni scholarships.”

If someone does not receive a letter following those mail campaign dates and wishes to make a pledge, donations can be sent to Allamakee Scholarship Fund, Inc., Box 144, Waukon, IA  52172. Contributions also can be made by contacting any board member.

Allamakee Scholarship Fund, Inc. board members include Brent Beyer, Stacie Cooper, Mary Jo Goodman, Steve Grotegut, Kathy Hay, Cindy Heffern, Amy McCormick, Teresa Myers, Stefanie Perkins, Karen Regan, Julie Rotach, Amy Wasson and Kim Winters.
