Waukon High School successfully celebrates Prom/Post Prom 2021

Waukon High School Prom and Post Prom were held Saturday into Sunday, April 24-25. The dance was held in the Waukon Middle School gym with the theme “Night of a Thousand Lights”. The Grand March began at 8 p.m. with parents and community members attending to take pictures and view the students dressed in their Prom attire. Seniors Hailey Fahey and Ryan VanderVelden were crowned as the 2021 Waukon High School Prom Queen and King.

The dance began at 9 p.m. with students enjoying music provided by Austin Brink. The Post Prom committee provided a photo booth from Absolute Music and prizes every half-hour during the dance. Prizes included gift certificates to local restaurants and a $50 and $100 cash drawing at 11 p.m. for students who were present through the entire dance. Some other highlights of the night included a dance camera and board games in the cafeteria.

Doors to the Post Prom event opened at 10:45 p.m. in the Waukon High School cafeteria where the Post Prom food committee provided many donated snacks, pizza, pop and roast pork sandwiches from local food venues. Hypnotist Tony Z from Illinois was the headline entertainment through Wand Enterprises. Students had the opportunity to entertain their peers on stage as they were hypnotized.

Following the hypnotist, students headed into the high school gym to play games and earn tickets to put in designated buckets for prize drawings. Games ranged from black jack, dice, floor Jenga, roulette wheels, saran ball, spoons, lawn games, to musical chairs.  This year two new games were added in the library, glow golf and laser tag.

The Post Prom event ended with the anticipated prize drawing from 3-3:30 a.m. All students left the Post Prom event with numerous prizes including a $10 gift card/certificate to a local business. Big ticket items included kayaks, 32” Smart TVs, microwaves, dorm refrigerators, a men’s and women’s bike, Apple Airpods, blue tooth speakers, luggage sets, air fryers, jewelry, river tubes, Kuerigs, $25 gift certificates to all the local restaurants, and numerous donated and fund-raised prizes for every participant.

The 2021 Post Prom Committee made a very conscious effort to purchase items from all the local businesses, whether it be prizes or gift certificates. They felt that it was extremely important to promote the community that generously donates to the Post Prom event. Providing students with prizes purchased in the community and gift certificates to use in the community shows students all the assets and opportunities there are in Waukon. The Post Prom Committee appreciates the community, parents and businesses for all the generous donations and support again this year.
