Eugene Burroughs

Eugene (Gene) Francis Burroughs, age 78, of Dorchester passed away June 30, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Memorial service will be held Friday, July 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester. Visitation will be held one hour before services with the memorial service following at 11 a.m.

Gene was born September 16, 1942 to Garland and Elizabeth (Becker) Burroughs. He attended country school near Lansing and graduated from St. George High School in 1960. He served in the Navy for two years.

He married Kathy Karles of Caledonia, MN in 1966, and to this union three children were born. They later divorced. Gene worked at Caterpillar Tractor in Rockford, IL as a welder. He moved back to Lansing after a motorcycle accident in 1973, and he worked several different jobs in the area. Gene married Patty Blake in 2002 and retired from welding at DH Satellite in Prairie du Chien, WI in 2006.

Gene enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing euchre and spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and would always tell others about his own mistakes. He will be greatly missed.

Gene is survived by his wife, Patty; three children, Scott (Wendy) Demlar, Tammy (Steve) Schindlar and Jeff Demlar; five grandchildren, Meghan, Jake and Bailey Demlar, and Savannah and Brooke Schindlar; four stepchildren, Theresa (Stuart) Jacobs, Dan (Syl) Manning, Bill (Trish) Manning and Peggy (Charlie) Berns; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, Gale (Buggs) Burroughs, who passed away just two days after Gene, and Ray (Marge) Burroughs; a sister, Connie (Jim) Eide; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
