Letter to the Editor: Patriotic reminders of our times

To the Editor:

America’s Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 declared this: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal (mankind), that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Its author, and America’s third president, Thomas Jefferson, also wrote, “God who gave us life, gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”

America is the only nation in history to be, as Abraham Lincoln proclaimed in his Gettysburg Address, “conceived in liberty.” It’s the reason July 4, America’s birthday, is so important. Our country was founded on the proposition that the purpose of government is to secure our “unalienable” rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Our founding patriots acknowledge the role God had in the birth of this nation. This same God reigns today. The Great I Am is the God of truth. Truth will prevail. He is the God who does things in His own timing, the God of “turn-around,” the Great Comeback and restoration is also the God of revival in our land with healing. He will do what He said He would do.

Blow the trumpet. His Spirit shall reign; His Word shall reign; His Hand shall reign across the heavens.

Hold on, America. Help is on the way. Come forth, America. Help has come. The Liberty Bell is ringing. Celebrate July 4.
