Eunice (Rekward) Hager

Eunice L. (Rekward) Hager, 78, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, PA. A celebration of life service was held Saturday, August 14 in her church, Monaghan Presbyterian Church, Dillsburg, PA. Eunice was born January 1, 1943 in Waukon, the daughter of the late Wallace and Luella (Gaare) Rekward. She was a graduate of Luther College in Decorah where she earned her degree in music education. She began her music teaching career in Wisconsin before moving to Pennsylvania, where she taught for over a decade at Northern High School in Dillsburg. She later worked as the Performing Arts Coordinator at Messiah University. After leaving full-time employment at Messiah, she returned to work there part-time as the Cultural Series Coordinator.

Eunice was a faithful and active member of the Monaghan Presbyterian Church in Dillsburg where, among other roles, she served as the choir director for 40 years. She sang in the Susquehanna Chorale for 14 years, had been a member of its board, and served in the Chorale’s educational outreach program.

She also performed with the Messiah College Choral Arts Society and had been a part of its organizational board.

Eunice is survived by her daughter, Sarah H. Crone, and her husband, Leon, Jr., of Mechanicsburg, PA; her sister, Dorothy Parrish of Sparks, NV; and her two grandchildren, Connor and Ava. Eunice was preceded in death by her two brothers, Lael and David Rekward.
