FFA chapters from Kee and Waukon High Schools finish among top 10 at Iowa FFA Milk Quality & Products CDE

The 2021 Iowa FFA Milk Quality & Products Career Development Event (CDE) was held at West Union Friday, September 17. Thirty-four teams and individuals participated in this year’s Career Development Event designed to provide students an opportunity to display their knowledge and skills in the area of milk quality and dairy foods.

A pair of FFA chapters from local high schools finished consecutively among the top 10 teams at the event. The Lansing FFA chapter from Kee High School finished seventh in the competition, with chapter member Annisa Stanley placing eighth among individual competitors to help lead the team to a Gold rating at the event. Team members included Cadan Evanson, Ashton Kolsrud, Riley Troendle and Anissa Stanley.

The Little Switzerland FFA chapter at Waukon High School finished in eighth place in the overall team competition, earning a Silver rating. Team members included Mallory Berns, Natalie Byrnes, Ethan Gibbs and Caleb Helgerson. Those two local chapters finished just ahead of fellow northeast Iowa chapters from Decorah and Central Elkader high schools, both of which rounded out the top 10 teams at the competition.

The North Scott FFA chapter at Eldridge was named the Iowa Champion FFA Milk Quality & Products Team. That champion team will compete in the National FFA Milk Quality & Products Career Development Event during the National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, IN this October. The Reserve Champion Team in the event was the West Marshall FFA, State Center.

The Iowa FFA Milk Quality & Products Career Development Event was made possible with support through the Iowa FFA Foundation. The Milk Quality & Products Career Development Event exam was prepared by Dr. Stephanie Clark and other faculty and staff with the Iowa State University Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition in Ames.
