Allamakee County Bible Reading Marathon takes place over two Saturdays ...

The 2021 Allamakee County Bible Reading Marathon was held the first two Saturdays in September, and was sponsored by Center Baptist Church in Lansing and First Baptist Church of Waukon this year. With a new format of holding the event on consecutive Saturdays and hosted by local churches, it was decided to read just the New Testament instead of the whole Bible this year.

Saturday, September 4 at the Plaza in Lansing (pictured above), 20 different people read out loud for nine hours and completed the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The following Saturday, September 11, a group hosted by First Baptist Church met on the Allamakee County Courthouse lawn in Waukon (pictured below) and continued the reading, starting in the book of Acts. Eleven hours and 18 readers later, they finished the New Testament with the last chapter of Revelation. Many expressed how encouraging it was to hear the Word of God read out loud in the local communities, and the event is something that is already being looked forward to again next year.
