Gregory Thiele

Gregory A. Thiele, 67, of Waukon died Monday, December 13, 2021 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family.

Gregory Alan Thiele was born October 24, 1954 in Waukon, the son of Chester George and Ellen Lorine (Warner) Thiele. After graduating from Waukon High School, Greg attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. While in Storm Lake, Greg worked as a dispatcher for the police department and later for the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department. Greg later moved to Cresco, where he worked for Kratz Motors.

After moving back to Waukon, Greg was a real estate agent at Keystone Real Estate (now Bieber Real Estate). In 1983, Greg, along with his dad and brother Ron, started Thiele Real Estate, where he worked for over 20 years. In 1983, he also met Jerre Henthorn and they have been together ever since.

Greg was a member of the Waukon Jaycees and was a swap vendor for many years as well. He primarily sold car shirts at the swap meets, selling them throughout the U.S. and around the world; this year, he was able to get to the Iola, WI swap, which was something he had been looking forward to doing.

Greg loved cars of all kinds, but especially the classic ones, and owned many throughout his life. He had the world’s largest heart and took care of and helped anyone that needed help getting back on their feet.

He is survived by his significant other, Jerre Henthorn of Waukon; his sister, Ellen Lee Thiele, and brother, Ronald (Cindy Mensink) Thiele, both of Waukon; two nieces, Stephanie (Christopher) Bjork of Riverside and Samantha (Kyle Dahl) Thiele of Decorah; and a great-niece and great-nephew, Madison and Cole Dahl. Greg was preceded in death by his parents. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
