Carbon storage and marketing highlighted at Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Nashua

Carbon storage and marketing will highlight the discussion at the annual meeting of the Northeast Iowa Agricultural Experiment Association, to be held March 16 at the Borlaug Learning Center at Iowa State’s Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Nashua.

Speakers include Keith Schilling, state geologist and director, Iowa Geological Survey, University of Iowa, and Ann Johanns, education extension specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Schilling will discuss “Challenges and Opportunities of Carbon Storage and Sequestration in Midwest Landscapes,” followed by Johanns’ talk, “Carbon Market Options for Producers.”

Dan Robison, endowed dean’s chair in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State, will also attend and make some comments. After lunch, Ken Pecinovsky, farm superintendent, will review 2021 research trial results conducted at the farm and discuss future research plans.

The program starts at 9:30 a.m. with the board meeting. Presentations will follow, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Attendees will receive the recently-printed 2021 Research Farm Report. The Riverton Lucky Clovers 4-H Club will serve lunch as a fundraiser. Following Pecinovsky’s presentation, the association board of directors will meet. The day’s sessions qualify for two free CCA credits (2 CM).

The meeting is free and open to the public. The Borlaug Learning Center is located at 3327 290th St., Nashua. From Nashua, at the Junction of Highway 218 (Exit 220) and County Road B60, go west on B60 1.1 miles to Windfall Ave., then south 1 mile to 290th St., then east 0.2 miles to the farm.
