Robert Lewey

Robert L. Lewey, 91, of Sumner died Tuesday evening, March 22, 2022 at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner. Funeral services for both Bob Lewey (Judy Lewey’s husband) and Neva Nerge (Judy Lewey’s mother who passed away Thursday evening, March 24) were held Tuesday, March 29 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Tanner Post officiating. Burial was at Lutheran Cemetery of Sumner Township, rural Sumner. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.

Robert Leo, son of Leo and Alice Lewey, was born August 8, 1930 in Hillsboro, MO. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed October 6, 1991 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner. Bob received his education in the Hillsboro Schools. After completing his education, he began working for the Circus, prior to a long career as a truck driver.

October 13, 1978, Bob was united in marriage with Judy Nerge. The couple lived in Waukon for several years, prior to moving to rural Sumner. Bob was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church-Spring Fountain and was a lifetime member of the Allamakee Sportsman Club and N.R.A. He loved to be outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, helping Judy with chores on the farm, or splitting wood, and he also had a love for cats.

Bob is survived by his wife, Judy, of Sumner; three children; and his mother-in-law, Neva Nerge, of Sumner until her death Thursday, March 24. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children; one brother, Carrol Lewey; and his father-in-law, Melvin Nerge.
