Learning and sharing through 21st Century Grant programs ...

Students taking part in the 21st Century Grant programs in the Allamakee Community School District have been busy learning and sharing through some recent activities. Pictured above, Waukon Middle School students participating in the 21st Century Grant program made lap quilts for residents of Good Samaritan Society and Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Many of the students have not been able to visit family and it was important for them to reach out and show they cared through the project they called “Quilts because we care”.

Good Samaritan Society put all the names of its residents into a basket and drew names for the lap quilts and candy also provided by the middle school students. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We had so much fun today. You made such an impact on our residents with your generosity and thoughtfulness. You guys rock!” was a message shared from Good Samaritan Society staff and residents. Northgate Care Center also shared a message of “The quilts brought so much joy to our residents, and nothing is nicer than to know someone cares about you and is thinking about you.”

During the Wednesday, March 16 scheduled day off from school for staff professional development, a group of 21st Century Grant students took a trip to Dubuque to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. The students had the opportunity to pet the Manta rays at the aquarium, as pictured in photo below. Submitted photos.
