Marlene "Mickey" Cook

Marlene “Mickey” L. Cook, 84, of Waukon died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Private family graveside services will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon with Pastor Karla Johnson officiating. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements. Memorials can be made to Oakland Cemetery, c/o Diane Oesterle at 1031 Maud Road, Waukon, IA 52172.

Marlene “Mickey” Louise Cook was born August 15, 1937 in Prairie du Chien, WI, the daughter of Frederick and Martha (Schroeder) Goebel. She graduated from Harpers Ferry High School. When Mickey was younger, she and her family raised horses, taking them on trail rides and to horse shows.

May 20, 1956, she married Charles Ward Cook at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. They farmed together in Makee Township, raising organic crops, cows and hogs. Mickey was a past member of Zion United Church of Christ and a current member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed making stained glass items and traveling in the family camper throughout the United States.

Survivors include her children, William “Bill” (Linda) Cook of Waukon and Christian (Lisa) Cook of West Salem, WI; five grandchildren: Ron (Sheri) Adam, Michael (Janet) Adam, Chad (Sarah) Adam, Elissa (Adam) Russell and Amanda Cook; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a cousin, Chuck (Shirley) Cota of Harpers Ferry. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles, who died in 2004.
