Jean was born August 7, 1934 and grew up on a farm in Waukon, the daughter of Emmett and Beatrice Magner Fahey. Jean went to St. Patrick Grade School and St. Patrick High School in Waukon, graduating in 1952. After high school, Jean worked as a nurse’s aide. She married Gregory Schulte in a double wedding with her twin sister, Joanne, and her husband, Donald Heffern, February 27, 1954 in Waukon.

Jean and Greg farmed the first years of their marriage, and Jean proudly cooked for the farmhands. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Jean taught CCD at St. Patrick School and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a prayer group at St. Jude Catholic Church.

Jean was a humble, empathetic and gentle woman who loved all of her family and friends. She was very prayerful and strong in her faith and love for God and instilled those beliefs in her family. Praying the rosary was very important to her, and she taught many of her family members how to recite it.
