Dennis Regan

Dennis W. Regan, 75, of Waukon died Saturday, September 3, 2022 at his home in rural Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon with Fr. John Moser and Fr. Jerry Blake officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church Friday. Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Grau Funeral Home of Waukon.

Dennis William Regan was born November 17, 1946 in Waukon, the son of William “Bill” Maurice and Angela Mary (Schulte) Regan. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon.

Dennis attended Lycurgus country school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1967, during the Vietnam War.

August 30, 1969, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Blake at St. Mary’s Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Dennis and Betty farmed in the Lycurgus area for several years where they raised beef cows, dairy cows, hogs and chickens. He also did carpentry work with his son, Darren, and did automotive and autobody work. Dennis restored several antique tractors, cars and trucks.

Dennis was a member of St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of Farm Bureau, the VFW and American Legion. Dennis enjoyed working on the farm, spending time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and restoring antique tractors. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Waukon; his children: Dennis “DJ” (Deborah) Regan and Daniel (Kari) Regan, both of Waukon, Denise (Wayne) Schmitt of Waucoma, Darren (Janelle) Regan of Cresco, and Dana (Kris) Einck of Decorah; 22 grandchildren: Audrey, Joey, Seth, Cody, Josh, Chelsea, Daylen, Dawston, Regan, Riley, Raquel, Rolin, Ryann, Monica, Meika, Mariah, Mason, Dayton, Nicholas, William, Elizabeth and Easton; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mary (Darrell) Henning of Postville, and Rosella (Greg) Piggott and Joan (Scott) Anderson, both of Waukon; four brothers: Frank (Mary) of Waukon, Bill (Karen) and Charles (Connie), both of Lansing, and Ron of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Joyce Regan of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael and Matthew; a sister-in-law, Mary Clauson Regan; a nephew, Chase Regan; a niece, Amber Regan; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mary Blake.

Honorary casketbearers are his sisters, Mary Henning, Rosella Piggott and Joan Anderson; his brothers, Frank, Bill, Charles and Ron Regan, Joe Emerson (friend), Jim Regan (cousin), and his godchildren, Stacie Cooper, Jessica Cummings, Andy Hatch, Brian Regan, Ryann Schmitt and Trish Shelton. Casketbearers are Joe, Josh, Daylen, Dawston and Mason Regan, Riley and Rolin Schmitt, Dayton, Nicholas, William and Easton Einck, and Seth and Cody Beisker.
