Valerie Fox

Valerie J. Fox died Monday, October 3, 2022 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 20 at the Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 1416 Great River Road, Lansing. Val was born March 28, 1950 in Columbus, MS. Her parents were Edwin Claude and Wenonah Mitchell. She graduated from Stephen D. Lee High School in Columbus in 1968 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1971 from Mississippi State College for Women (now called Mississippi University for Women).

Val married Roy D. Rodgers in 1970, living in Alexandria, LA, Grand Prairie, TX, and then back in Columbus, where she was employed by Columbus Air Force Base for 30 years. She retired in 2006 as a contract administrator.

She had two sons, Dennis Mitchell and Vernon Travis Rodgers. She divorced Roy in 1988 and married Sam Fox in 1990. They moved to Harpers Ferry in 2007, shortly after she retired.

Val was an accomplished horsewoman, enjoying her many hours of trail rides, painting scenic landscapes, fishing many local spots in northeast Iowa, dancing and dining out. She enjoyed her time participating in horseback therapy with Thunder Rode in rural Decorah.

Val is survived by her husband, Sam; two sons, Dennis and Travis, living in Paris, TX; her stepsons, Darryl Fox of Harpers Ferry and Erik Fox of Waterloo; her elder sister, Carrol Clemmons of Montgomery, AL; many nieces and nephews; and many more friends.
