Kim Volker

Kim Volker, 70, of Lansing passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. A celebration of life and memory sharing time will be held this Saturday, November 5 at 12 p.m. at TJ Hunters Banquet Hall in Lansing.

Friends may greet the family from 11 a.m. until the start of the celebration of life Saturday at TJ Hunters. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.

Kim Volker was born June 12, 1952 in Waterloo, the son of Frederick and Maxine (Combs) Volker. To help with his vision issues, Kim attended the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton. He remained involved with the school and the students throughout his life.

August 18, 1972, Kim married Deborah Cagley at St. Nicholas Parish in Evansdale. They made their home in Waterloo until 1986, when they moved their family to Lansing for some peace and quiet.

Moving to Lansing was great for Kim as his favorite thing in the world was fishing and boating on the Mississippi, and he was often out from dawn to dusk with classic rock playing on the radio. As a man of leisure, he collected several things and loved going to garage sales. Kim’s disability allowed him to be a stay-at-home dad; his kids and grandkids were the light of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deb, of Lansing; his three children: Joshua (Amanda) Volker of Clinton, Samantha Volker of Lansing and Amanda (John) Gallagher of La Crosse, WI; his grandchildren: Pryce, Jaxon, Jovi, Ashton, Piper and Nova; his nieces and nephew: Allison (Jeff) Bunger, Maryanne (Jeff) Harris, Katherine (Clint) Stainbrook and Chris Zummak; his sister-in-law, Donna Volker of Waterloo; and his close friends: Rich and Melodye Protsman, Larry and Merry Hoofnagle, and Sarah Stubbe.

Kim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frederick; his sister, Michelle Zummak; and a granddaughter, Lily.

Kim’s grandchildren will serve as honorary urnbearers. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
