Rosaria Einck

Rosaria Einck, age 94, of Festina died Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, October 20 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina with Rev. Henry Huber officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Born December 22, 1927, Rosaria Barbara (Wurzer) Einck was the ninth child born to Barbara (Kuennen) Wurzer and Konrad Wurzer in a family of 12 children. She was baptized in her faith by the late Msgr. Schuh of St. Lucas and received her education by attending St. Luke’s grade school and high school. After graduation she worked as a nurse aide at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, WI and as a “hired girl” around home for a few years.

Rosaria was united in marriage August 28, 1951 to Norbert Einck of Festina, whom she met at a dance at the Inwood in Spillville. Together they farmed the Einck family farm by Festina and raised their six children. She enjoyed living on the farm, being a housewife and mother.

Rosaria and Norb spent many hours going to Norb’s baseball games. They enjoyed going on bus trips, listening to the Jim Busta Band with Mollie B and Ted. Later, they attended grandchildren and great-grandchildren sporting events, which was the highlight of their lives.

She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church for 71 years, where she sang in the choir, belonged to the Rosary Society CDA and was sacristan. Rosaria loved to travel, fish, garden, quilt, crochet, sew, cook meals for the dairymen, work in her flower garden, and golf for 40-plus years. She was very proud of her “hole in one” on hole #9 and an eagle on hole #7.

She had many changes in her life: Walking 2-1/2 miles to school or riding a sleigh in the winter, no electricity, milked cows by hand, husked corn by hand, no water in their house, carried in wood and custom hay baling with the first baler around with her dad or brother.

Rosaria will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She touched many hearts with her caring and thoughtfulness. She was a very gracious hostess and made sure no one left her house hungry. Everyone loved her cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies.

Rosaria is survived by her two daughters and four sons: Barb (Mike) Heins of West Union, Steve (Marilyn) Einck of Festina, Dave (Nancy) Einck of Waukon, Joe (Cindy) Einck of Festina, Mike (Tammy) Einck of Festina and Therese (Gary) Lechtenberg of Postville; 23 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Irma Hageman of New Hampton, Alvina Hemesath of Lawler, Alma Hemesath of Ossian and Doris Smith of Fort Atkinson; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wurzer of Waucoma and Margaret Wurzer of Decorah.

Rosaria was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert Einck, in 2006; a son, John, in infancy; a grandson, Mitch Einck; her parents, Konrad and Barbara Wurzer; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Julitta Einck; her siblings and their spouses: Anton (Marcella) Wurzer, Edwin Wurzer, Carl (Lorraine) Wurzer, Francis Wurzer, Alvin (Lorelie) (Carolyn) Wurzer, Ann (Roman) Kuennen and Sister Theophane Wurzer; her brothers-in-law, Florian Hageman, Eddie Hemesath, Jim Murray, Charlie Hemesath and Alvin Smith; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Louis (Alice) Einck, Don (Marie) Kipp and Herb (Mildred) Wenthold; and several nieces and nephews.
