Janeth Fish

Janeth R. Fish, 80, of Waukon entered Heaven Christmas Day 2022, and was reunited with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her loving husband of 40 years, Harold. She passed away at home due to a cardiac event. She requested no funeral services and will be buried at Rossville Cemetery at a later date. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Janeth Rae (Cook) Fish was born January 18, 1942 in Mullens, WV, the second child of Edna (Tickle) and John Enoch Cook. She graduated from Mullens High School in 1959, after which she attended Little French Beauty School in Bluefield.

She moved to the D.C. area to work as a hair stylist and she met Harold Fish at a dance. A few weeks after their first meeting, they were married January 16, 1966. After Harold’s service in the Army ended in 1967, they moved to his hometown of Waukon where they raised three children, owned and operated a variety of businesses, and remodeled many homes. Jan loved expressing her creativity through styling hair in her own salon, creating floral arrangements, decorating homes and more; her family, friends and clients loved her unique style and fun sense of humor.

In later years, Jan cared for Harold as he battled cancer until his death in 2006, and also for her ailing mother. Her loving spirit and generous heart made her a compassionate caregiver. For the past decade, Jan has made her home with her son, John, and his wife, Jennifer, where she found great joy in watching their children, Charlotte Rae (4) and Colton (1), grow up. She helped care for her grandchildren several days a week and often said they kept her young. Jan was an exceptional woman with an artistic, entrepreneurial spirit and competent, self-sufficient attitude.

She will be greatly missed and is survived by her children: Felicia, Heather (Kim) and John (Jennifer); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert (Becky); her sister, Terrill; and her brother, Brit (Vicki). She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold.
