Allamakee County Treasurer’s Office reminds property owners that tax payments are due Friday

Allamakee County Treasurer Jennifer O’Neill would like to remind property owners that the second installment of property taxes is due by Friday, March 31.

Property tax payments can be made in the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office in the Allamakee County Courthouse at 110 Allamakee Street in Waukon between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tax payers are reminded to bring their tax stubs with their payment to insure proper credit. To avoid penalty on the second installment, payment must be received in the Treasurer’s Office by Friday, March 31. Penalty will apply April 1, 2023.

E-check and credit card payments are also accepted online at www.iowatreasurers.org. Tax payers will need their receipt number to pay by E-check. This can be found on their tax statement.

For convenience, the Treasurer’s office accepts VISA, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards in its office for payments on taxes and motor vehicle registrations. There is a $2 fee for using a debit card. The credit card companies set the fees charged for using their credit cards. It is the same fee as charged on the internet payment system.

A drop box is also located in the north parking lot of the Allamakee County Courthouse for property owners to drop off tax payments. When exiting the parking lot, the box will be on the left side of the exiting driveway.

Elderly Credit or Rent Reimbursements: Those who are at least 65 years of age as of December 31, 2022 or totally disabled and have a total household income of less than $25,328.00, or those who are 70 years of age as of December 31, 2022 and their income is 250% below the federal poverty level, might be eligible for additional tax credit on their home. The deadline to sign up for this is Thursday, June 1, 2023. Contact the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office for more information at 563-568-3793 or email treas@allamakeecounty.iowa.gov.

The last day to pay taxes in the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office to avoid having names in this year’s newspaper publication is Friday, May 19. Unpaid taxes will be offered for sale at the Annual Tax Sale to be held Monday, June 19.
