Gerry DeBuhr

Gerry V. DeBuhr, 74, of Waukon died Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at his home. Private family graveside services were held at Salem Cemetery in rural Waukon with Pastor Sue Klimstra and Pastor Jeanyne Slettom officiating. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon handled the arrangements.

Gerald “Gerry” Victor DeBuhr was born November 27, 1948 in Waukon, the son of Victor and Betty (Selberg) DeBuhr. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1967, where he played football, basketball and golf.

Gerry graduated from the University of Iowa in 1971 with a business degree, and he served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1973. He worked for Thorpe Credit Union in Maquoketa before moving back to Waukon, and he was the manager and greenskeeper at the Waukon Golf and Country Club. Gerry owned and operated the S&D Cafe for a few years before he went to work for his brother, Dennis, at DeBuhr and Son Plumbing and Heating, retiring in 2012.

November 14, 1998, he married Karen Bezoier at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and the Waukon Golf and Country Club. Gerry enjoyed golfing and giving lessons, along with fishing with his nephews.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of Waukon; his brother, Dennis (Linda) DeBuhr of Waukon; two nephews, Cory (Jen) DeBuhr and Jeff (Niki) DeBuhr; a niece, Dana (Derek) Johnson; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and Karen’s children: Jeff (Briana) Perry, Jen (Dave) Leamy and Lynnette (friend Tuk) Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents.
