Allamakee Community Education Association celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week May 8-12

Teacher Appreciation Week at Allamakee Community School District is being celebrated this week, May 8-12. During this week, teachers will acknowledge and celebrate the profession.

Teaching is a calling, exemplified by individuals who work tirelessly to positively impact, inspire and educate local youth. Teachers are frequently found collaborating with fellow staff members, families and community members. Teachers in the Allamakee Community School District were surveyed in late April, replying to the following question:

What do you love about Allamakee Community Schools?

Their replies included the following:

“The ability to follow students throughout their school years; Watch their accomplishments”

“The collaboration and teamwork amongst staff in the district! We have a great team!”

“Our kindergarten team is amazing and such fun memories are created with our kindergartners! We love having programs like Ag in the Classroom and Ross from Allamakee County Conservation come into our classrooms to bring activities and sometimes even animals as we learn about the area that we live in. We were able to travel this year to visit Peake’s Apple Orchard, Robey Memorial Library, and the Waukon Fire Department to discuss Fire Safety. The Driftless Center and Waukon Park are coming up soon! Each day is an adventure!”

“I love how Allamakee encourages continuous improvement. Our district has implemented PLC work which allows educators to collaborate and share resources, strategies, and ideas. When teachers become better, students learn more. Administration encourages us to take risks and try new things.”

“At Allamakee, it is all about the people that make it a great place to be! The teachers, paraprofessionals, lunch ladies, bus drivers, janitors, secretaries and administration work together as a team. Together, we are always there to support and encourage our students.

“Great opportunities for our students to learn and grow.”

“I love working with so many great teachers that encourage and support each other. They really go above and beyond to do what’s best for kids.”

“The staff that make us feel like family.”

“The care and compassion that teachers and staff show towards the students.”

“I love the wonderful teachers that I work with and who have taught me in this school district. I have worked in almost every building and the staff has always been so helpful and kind.”

“Allamakee Schools reach out to all students and provide them with tools they can use to become successful - whether it’s through academics, good conversations between students and adults, or even just smiles shared between teachers and students or students with each other. We all need others to help us along the way ranging from the bus drivers, cooks, paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, and teachers - we all can make a difference in a young person’s life!”

“Raising our three children in Allamakee Schools has provided amazing opportunities for their college experiences and careers, and has helped to shape well-rounded individuals. We are very fortunate to have the NICC partnership that provides college classes and prepares our students to be successful past the walls of Allamakee Schools.”

“Spreading positivity and having lots of laughs with both students and coworkers.”

“Providing real world authentic learning experiences for my students, and watching them grow while building relationships.”

“Allamakee Schools encourage teachers to continue learning and work to really make a difference in our students’ lives. We work to ignite the spark of learning through our own professional learning so that we are better equipped to handle our students’ needs.”

“I truly enjoy seeing a student grow - both as a student and as a young person. While it has its challenges, I’ve experienced many more joy-filled moments to cherish in retirement!”

“I enjoy working with students. It is a privilege to see them learn, grow and succeed.”

“I enjoy the relationships I have built with my past and present students. I have the opportunity to watch them learn and grow and enjoy seeing their successes!”

“Building relationships with students, families and the community!”

“I am fortunate as the district Teacher-Librarian to have a relationship with all students from grades PreK - 12. I enjoy teaching library skills to my PreK - 5 students and collaborating with teachers in grades 6-12 to incorporate important lessons in the classroom on reading, research, and technology.”

“I love that I was once a student here and now am able to shape the minds of young children. Amazing teachers once inspired me to do what I am doing now, and I hope to do the same for children.”

“I absolutely love being a kindergarten teacher at ACSD! I am able to watch my kinders learn each day and see life through the eyes of a 5 or 6 year old... what a gift!”

“As my students told me to say, “being with them”!”

“I appreciate observing and interacting within the community with students and families. Getting to know them on a more personal level.”
