The end to the Waukon girls track season came at the venue where all high school track and field athletes strive to be, competing among the state of Iowa’s elite in their respective events at the Iowa High School State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines Thursday through Saturday, May 18-20. The Lady Indians competed in five events at that season grand finale, finishing within the top 20 of the Class 2A elite in the four events that they returned to State in, including taking one of them to a medal-winning finish within the top eight of their event peers.

In her second consecutive season of competition at the season grand finale, junior Kloe Hemmersbach got the Lady Indians’ State Meet effort off to a medal-winning start Thursday, May 18, launching her way to the shot put finals and an eventual eighth-place finish among this year’s field of 24 Class 2A competitors. After the first two of her three attempts in the preliminary round of the competition - efforts of 33’4.25” and 35’9” - had her sitting just outside the initial eighth-place finals qualifying spot, Hemmersbach unleashed a third and final preliminary throw of 38’1.5” to make those finals with the seventh-best preliminary distance.
