Jerry Duane Nagel was born October 4, 1956 in Waukon, the son of Roland Verni and Mary Jane (Ferguson) Nagel. After graduating from Postville High School, he received his electrician training from NICC in Calmar. He moved to Wyoming and worked for an explosives company. While out there, Jerry met Cheryl Ann Woodral and they married August 12, 1978.

In 1983, he and Cheri moved back to Waukon for a few years before moving to the Cedar Rapids and Marion areas in 1988. Jerry was an electrician for Acme Electric Company and ESCO Group.

As a father, he was tough, but fair, and he also had a goofy side. Jerry sacrificed a lot to provide a good life for his family and the only thing he expected in return was honesty, no matter what shenanigans his kids may have gotten into. He loved darts and earned a trip to Las Vegas to play. Jerry also liked playing video games and shooting the potato gun he put together.

Jerry is survived by his children, Heather Matheny of Cedar Rapids, Edward Nagel of Marion, Terry Nagel of Marion and Joe Nagel of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Brian Kapurch, Natalie Bullis, and Tyler, Cory and Annie Feyss; three great-grandchildren, Becka Miranda, and Brian Jr. and Layla Kapurch; and his siblings, Nancy (Mike) Tangen of Chicago, IL, Susan (Anthony) Stumbo of New Albin and Lori Nagel of Waukon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cheri, in 2021; and two brothers, John and Ronald Nagel.
