Karen Keatley

Karen M. Keatley, 84, of Waukon died Thursday, June 22, 2023. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. John Moser officiating, and burial was at Oakland Cemetery, both in Waukon.

Karen Margaret Keatley was born March 10, 1939 in Waukon, the daughter of Cyril and Lucille (Mauss) Byrnes. She was baptized at St. Patrick Catholic Church and confirmed at St. Mary’s Hanover Catholic Church, both in Waukon, and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in Lansing in 1958. September 12, 1959, she married Fred Keatley at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Her family was the most important thing to her and she taught them good life lessons in a humble way. Karen was a selfless wife and mother and considered all of her kids’ friends her kids too, welcoming all into her home, and always made sure everyone had enough to eat. Karen was kind, compassionate, and was quick to include everyone in whatever was going on. Karen was adored by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: Bob Keatley, Brenda Keatley, Dennis “Corky” (Mary) Keatley and Murry (Laura) Keatley, all of Waukon; five grandchildren: Beau (Sara) Langland, Erica (Zach) Nosbisch, Alex (Andrew) Snitker, and Callen and Cayden Keatley; 10 great-grandchildren: Taylor and Ashton Wohlfeil, Camden and Adrienne Nosbisch, and Renae, Blake, Alana, Claire, Gabe and Cole Snitker; one sister, Shirley (Gordie) Clingenpell of West Salem, WI; a brother-in-law, Mel (Dodie) Keatley of Lansing; and a sister-in-law, Irene Keatley of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, in 1990; two sisters, Pauline Dundee and her twin sister, Carol Dougherty; three brothers, Donald, Kenny and Jim Byrnes; and three brothers-in-law, Hap Keatley, Milo Dundee and Bernard Dougherty.

Casketbearers were Beau Langland, Andrew Snitker, Zach Nosbisch, Ashton Wohlfeil, Lee Dundee and Greg Dougherty.
