The 63rd annual Bulman reunion was held July 16 in Eitzen, MN. There were about 40 attendees who visited over a potluck meal at the Eitzen Community Center. As in other years, we were blessed to have Jim Bulman of Waukon ride his bike to join us. Jim consistently makes the all-out effort to attend the gathering.
Rev. Paul Burgess of the Mt. Hope Church joined us as our honorary Bulman. Mt. Hope was founded by ancestors of the Bulman family in 1858, and although they weren’t all directly descended from the Bulman family, they all intermarried at some point.
President Bruce Bulman presided over the business meeting. The group decided to meet again July 21, 2024 at Eitzen. Prizes were given as follows: A bag of mints was split between first-time attendees. Grace Holdbrook won a bag of Werther’s for coming the furthest from Tacoma, WA; she is the great-granddaughter of Barton and Lotus Bulman. Jim Bulman of Waukon won a bottle of water for putting the most effort to attend by riding his bike.
Bob Bulman of Wichita, KS won a box of Crunch N Munch for being married the longest. He and his wife have been married for 58 years. Loren Hartley of Dorchester won a bottle of water for being the oldest in attendance at 86 years.
Officers for the coming year are Bruce Bulman, Caledonia, MN, president; Lori Hover, Dorchester, treasurer; LeeAnne Bulman, Independence, WI, secretary; and Laina Ford, Waukon, historian. Please send any family updates to bulmanreunion@gmail.com.
The family enjoyed their time visiting and trying to figure out the family tree. Boards were displayed about the three Bulman brothers from Postville who served in World War II. At one time all three were missing in action. There was also a display about a trip Clarence and Floyd Bulman took from Dorchester to South Dakota, Oregon and down to Mexico in 1922 camping out and driving a Willys Overland.
