Elinor Jeanne Englehorn Meyer left this earth and went to be with the Lord September 3, 2023 at the age of 95. Elinor was born March 21, 1928 in Lansing. She grew up in Lansing and graduated from Lansing High School in 1945. Elinor attended college at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and majored in Music and minored in English. She graduated in 1949.
Elinor married the love of her life, Leo H. Meyer, June 18, 1950. She taught music and English and also worked for Western Farm Management Company drawing maps for their reports. Elinor and Leo spent over 10 years working at the YMCA Camp at Estes Park during the summer and treasured their time up in the mountains.
Elinor’s life revolved around music. She directed numerous church choirs, taught piano lessons and sang many solos in church including a version of “O Holy Night” on Christmas Eve that would send chills down your spine. There was not a hymn that Elinor did not know. Elinor was also a member of the Eastern Star Bandera chapter.
Elinor is preceded in death by her parents, Viette and Harold Englehorn; her sister, Ruth Clauson; her brothers, Gary and John Englehorn; her loving husband of 52 years, Leo Meyer; and her daughter, Valerie Girard.
She is survived by her sister, Carol MacDonald; her daughter, Jodi Meyer (Ted); her son-in-law, Tony Girard; her grandson, Joshua Meyer; her granddaughters, Alyssa Girard and Alexis Pruitt (Steven); and numerous great-grandchildren.
Elinor was a strong woman that loved her family dearly and truly always made a house a home. She will be dearly missed.
